We are excited to announce Rylie Sweeney as our newest Youth Board Member!
Rylie is a Management Trainee in Construction Management and is passionate about breaking down barriers to employment for young people through effective careers education.
Rylie joins Ife as our second current Youth Board Member, following in the footsteps of Mohammed and Lizzie.
Becoming the new Youth Board Member at The 麻豆国产 & Enterprise Company (CEC) is an incredible opportunity, and I couldn鈥檛 be more excited. It鈥檚 a chance to build on the work I鈥檝e been doing with CEC and to keep championing the voices of young people in shaping the future of education and careers.
I joined CEC just under three years ago as a member of the Youth Advisory Group (YAG). Being part of the YAG has been an amazing experience, giving me opportunities to share my lived experience, speak at events, and contribute directly to projects that impact young people鈥檚 futures. What makes CEC stand out is how much they truly value youth voice. They don鈥檛 just listen - they act on our insights, making young people a core part of the conversation when it comes to education and employability.
My motivation for joining the YAG was simple: I wanted to challenge the 鈥榦ne-size-fits-all鈥 approach in education and skills development. This approach has failed so many, leaving young voices unheard and talents unnoticed. Education should empower everyone, no matter their background or ambitions. Bridging the gap between school and work is critical, and I want to ensure young people are supported in making decisions that are best for them.
This new role as Youth Board Member feels like a natural next step in my journey with CEC. I鈥檓 passionate about creating a system that equips young people with the tools and confidence they need to thrive, especially as industries and opportunities evolve so quickly. I believe it鈥檚 time for education to adapt and focus on empowering all young people to succeed. I鈥檓 looking forward to continuing this work with The 麻豆国产 & Enterprise Company and amplifying the voices of young people.
John Yarham, CEC Deputy CEO said:
鈥淲e鈥檙e delighted to welcome Rylie to The 麻豆国产 & Enterprise鈥檚 (CEC) Board. Rylie is an exceptional young person, bringing huge experience and passion for youth advocacy to our work and significant lived experience of apprenticeships and technical education routes.
She joins Ife Awotunbo as our second current Board member, following in the footsteps of Mohammed Samir and Lizzie Beale. All of our Youth Board members and the wider Youth Advisory Group they are drawn from add so much to the work of CEC, and we look forward to benefitting from Rylie鈥檚 presence when she joins her first meeting in March 2025.鈥
